Job Summary: This  role is ideal for an accounting professional with hands‑on experience running finance operations particularly focused on the insurance or financial services industries. The Staff Accountant will oversee daily accounting functions, support underwriting operations, and manage fiduciary banking activity for a niche business within the larger organization. This individual will learn directly from existing team members, take ownership of a specialized financial vertical, and play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial execution.

A Day in The Life

·       Manage fiduciary bank accounts, including recording, reconciling, and reporting activity.

·       Process premium deposits, reconcile accounts receivable, resolve discrepancies, and manage ACH instruction setups.

·       Oversee claims payment cycles, funding requests, claim reconciliations, and related reporting.

·       Support new and renewal policy financial setup, treaty confirmation, and system accuracy.

·       Prepare monthly financial settlements, bordereaux reporting, and internal cash control documentation.

·       Produce and distribute month‑end reports to carriers, brokers, and internal leadership.

·       Collaborate with underwriting teams to resolve issues and ensure accurate financial reporting.

·       Assist with annual audits, 1099 reporting, and system troubleshooting.

·       Roll up your sleeves and execute core accounting functions, including AR/AP, bank reconciliations, booking entries, and payment processing.

·       All other duties as assigned.


Responsibilities

Fiduciary Bank Account Monitoring & Maintenance

·       Record and reconcile daily activity across ~15 fiduciary accounts.

·       Transfer funds between accounts, leveraging MMA accounts for interest optimization.

·       Initiate EFTs, ACH, and wire transfers as needed.

·       Perform monthly bank reconciliations and distribute reports and statements to carriers.

Premiums

·       Obtain premium reporting forms and record daily deposits.

·       Reconcile cash against invoice receivables and resolve discrepancies.

·       Follow up with insureds, producers, and TPAs on overdue items.

·       Maintain ACH instruction files and issue return premium payments as needed.

 

Claims

·       Run weekly claim check requests and coordinate cash calls with carriers.

·       Reconcile claim funds by treaty and year.

·       Issue payments (checks or EFTs) and record claim refunds.

·       Distribute EORs and maintain ACH instructions for claim payments.

General Accounting & Support

·       Verify proper setup and coding for new or renewal policies and treaties.

·       Review contracts for financial compliance.

·       Partner with underwriting support for issue resolution.

·       Complete internal and external audit requests.

·       Report system issues, track ticket resolution, and support 1099 reporting.

Reporting & Settlement

·       Provide ad‑hoc premium and claims accounting reports.

·       Close bank accounts, reconcile bordereaux, and confirm month‑end claim fund balances.

·       Produce remittance advice and distribute monthly reporting packages.

·       Customize carrier‑specific bordereaux formats.

·       Complete internal production and cash control exhibits for Multiview journal entries.

·       Run Multiview trial balance to confirm accuracy.


What You’ll Need

·       Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 3–5+ years of insurance accounting experience.

·       Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem‑solving skills.

·       Hands‑on experience with AR/AP, cash application, and disbursement initiation.

·       Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables a plus) and familiarity with accounting systems.

·       Ability to work independently, make decisions, and manage competing priorities.

·       Not essential but preferred: Knowledge of insurance terminology and financial operations.

Work Schedule & Hours

Exempt

Full-time hours: Core business hours of Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and/or occasional weekend hours totaling 40 or more hours per week; no overtime payable.  (FLSA Status: Exempt)

Note: Job responsibilities and travel expectations at this level will often require the performance of job duties beyond the normal workweek schedule.
